RULE OF GAZE
COMPOSITION - Implied direction, or gaze
The idea here is to leave a space in front of your subject or to where their gaze is directed to link them to their environment. Rear views work in the same way as you can imply the path where your subject may have come from. By including space around your subject (without it being a panorama), you are forcing your viewer to consider what the subject may be thinking about, and depending on the subjects action, where they may be headed or have come from. But it’s not only images with people that this can apply to, objects can lead the eye just as well. After all you are creating an image that you would like to have some sort of response to from your viewers, so if you can include that added extra in your work, it only adds to your story.
