Introduction

'Beneath Southern Seas' is a stunning visual portrayal of the world of
the Australian submariner, as seen through the eyes of photographer
Jon Davison and writer Tom Allibone.

The narrative for the book is based on 40 thought provoking and
illuminating interviews with the people who make up this unusual
occupation, from the construction, sea trials, to training and operations,
to the Captain and his crew.

Beneath Southern Seas

Through their words we discover just
what it is like to be a submariner. The
Chapters cover Australia's history with
submarines, including the AE1 (lost of
Rabaul in 1915) and AE2 (recently
discovered on the bottom of the Sea of
Marmara in Turkey), plus life on board
the Collins Class submarines today.

Tom Allibone has worked in the aviation industry for many years and has published widely. Tom has an interview style that makes
people relaxed and therefore able
to relate their story in a lucid and honest way. This ability was put to good use in their recent title 'Beneath Southern Skies'.
