We
were commissioned by the VAP Group in the
UK to supply the photography, talent (live models)
and location for a concept to promote the new seasonal catalogue from
Millets Outdoor wear.
We sat in at the briefings and analysed the
sketches they had worked out. Armed with this we went in search of a suitable
location. The visuals
called for a fairly mountainous terrain that would
suit the nature of the clients products.
Wales was an obvious place to go as it has some
great valleys and dramatic landscapes. We had to create a handfull of
believable scenarios such as a family having an early morning wake-up
call,
due to a Hedgehog being found in the tent.
The theme of the brochure revolved around a
typical family on a camping holday. The various
scenarios all delt with aspects of this.
I shot the above frame at dusk, lit with two
tungsten spots run from a generator.

The cover (above) featured the family
self portrait overlooking a Welsh Valley.

Another scenario (above) was the son
retrieving his dads boot from the stream.
This was the final reproduced image.
Although it took a little while to get the
right feel.

The first shot (above left) was not
quite right. I felt that the image was
not dynamic enough and that the
camera should be a lot lower and
in line with the escaping boot.
My assistant Phil (above right )
helping to work the shot. Note the
Hassleblad 6x6cm camera.
I always take Iocation stills for the
record and as a recource
in my workshops and lectures.
